Neutral Coastal Style - Serena & Lily Memorial Day Sale Picks

I'm a big believer that our surroundings have an enormous impact on how we feel, and can be an amazing source of positivity in our lives. Since we live so close to the beach, I love to incorporate coastal style into our home. The beach has always been my "happy place" and has a way of making me feel grounded and peaceful like nothing else can (exactly the way I want to feel in my home!).

When it comes to interiors, I think it is so interesting how coastal style can have so many unique interpretations. It's no secret that I am an unapologetic neutral lover, so I tend to take a very understated, subtle approach to this style, using lots of texture, sun-bleached tones of sand and driftwood, faded blues and soft whites in my home.

Serena & Lily's Montecito pillow covers are shown here - I love the texture and how they never look wrinkled!

One of my favorite sources for neutral coastal pieces is Serena & Lily -- they have so many options that fit this style perfectly! They do such a beautiful job of seamlessly blurring the line between indoor and outdoor living, and their quality never disappoints. I also think it's no coincidence that their slogan is "living well begins at home" -- just flipping through their catalog leaves me feeling calm and inspired! This concept rings true for me completely, so I've rounded up a few of my favorite pieces from Serena & Lily for all of my fellow neutral coastal lovers (some of these may or may not be in my shopping cart right now ;-)):

Master Bedroom Refresh | White Linen Love

If you've been following along with me for a while, you know there aren't many strict "rules" I follow with regard to design. However, years ago I came across a quote from designer Myra Hoefer in House Beautiful that has always stuck with me:

Even though I occasionally dabble in some colorful pillows or throws, this is one guideline I always follow. To me, there's just nothing like a bed dressed in fresh white linens to make a space feel elegant, luxurious and timeless.

But, white doesn't have to mean boring! By layering different fabrics and textures, white linens can be interesting, inviting, and -- dare I say -- fun! :)

To give our master bedroom a little spring refresh, I partnered with The Company Store to upgrade our bedding. And even though this may not look like a drastic change (I only went from white to, you guessed it -- more white! 😆) the difference in quality is really exceptional.

I'm always on the hunt for great eco-friendly & non-toxic products, and I was so happy to see that The Company Store offers a wide selection of organic linens! This duvet cover has the most beautiful texture and is so unexpectedly soft -- it is absolutely my favorite duvet cover I've ever owned.

Here is a close-up to give you a better idea of the detail in the texture:

We also swapped out our old comforter for a new one from The Company Store, and it is the perfect mid-weight fill that is warm and cozy in the winter but not too hot in the summer (a must for our crazy New England weather!). This comforter is so soft and luxurious, it is almost tempting to use it without a cover on it! The fill is a down-alternative called PrimaLoft so it is vegan and hypo-allergenic as well. Win-win!

Another thing I'm constantly looking for is a good down-alternative pillow that doesn't feel clumpy. So, to do a little comparison, I ordered both down and down-alternative pillows from The Company Store, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of their down-free pillows. I almost couldn't even tell which was which! They "fluff" just like down with a similar weight and don't feel even the slightest bit clumpy. Not only are they vegan and hypo-allergenic, they are also machine washable! Now I want to replace all the other pillows in our house with these 😬!

I also love the texture and subtle fringed edges of their linen pillow covers. Some linen fabrics tend to feel a bit rough, but these strike just the right balance of texture and softness. They also come in tons of colors and sizes so they could really be used anywhere, not just on the bed!

Now let's talk about these sheets. WOW.  I've never indulged in super high thread count sheets before, but I'm not sure I can ever go back now!  With an 800 thread count, these sheets are more than double the thread count of anything I've used before and you can definitely feel the difference! I also love the subtle detail of the double-stitched border, making these sheets as pretty as they are comfortable.

Finally, this light gray textured blanket is just the icing on the cake! I love the subtle tonal contrast it adds, and it is so soft to the touch despite its waffled texture. In the warmer months it works beautifully as a throw at the end of the bed, and when it gets colder I think it will be the perfect blanket to add underneath the comforter for an extra layer of warmth.

The quality of these linens, combined with the casual feel of the textures I chose, lends itself to the feeling of approachable elegance I was striving for in our master bedroom. I love how the bed still looks polished and put together, even when it's not "perfectly" made!

I'm as convinced as ever that white linens are the ultimate in elegant simplicity and anything but boring! I'm linking all of my top picks from The Company Store for you here, including all my favorite organic and down-free options:
