Over the years, this room has seen quite a few changes. From guest room to nursery to playroom, it has served many purposes and seen many different styles. Lately I've been craving a more earthy, neutral palette, so I partnered with my friends at
Serena + Lily to give this room a little refresh!
I started by upgrading the rug (our old one had quite a few crayon/marker stains from the kids and coffee spills from yours truly ππ and it was definitely time for it to go!). We needed something durable but comfortable, and I wanted something a bit warmer than the gray rug we had previously.
I went with the
Serena + Lily Turnstone Rug in Earth -- it has the perfect warm neutral tone I was looking for in a fun but subtle pattern. And best of all, it can be hosed down to clean it!!! It's actually an indoor / outdoor rug, but you'd never know it because the material is so soft and cozy. It's so easy to clean and can definitely stand up to whatever my kids (literally) throw at it! π
Next I swapped out the art work for something in a more soothing, neutral tone that feels earthy yet coastal. I borrowed these prints from our master bathroom (both are by
Deb Presutto) and I love how they pull in both warm and cool neutrals at the same time. These are 2 of my favorite pieces ever -- I've used them so many times and they look great everywhere!
As much as I love them in here, I'm thinking of replacing these pieces with 1 or 2 other prints to bring in some more warm / brown tones, and so my master bathroom doesn't feel so sad without these π I think these 2 (also by
Deb Presutto!) would be perfect, don't you?!
Next, it was time for a pillow upgrade! Again, I wanted to bring in some warmer neutrals, with lots of texture and character. On the
malawi chair, I used the
Serena + Lily Luca Pillow in Fog -- I love the subtle greige stripe with the playful pom pom fringe!
Finally, I layered in some vintage hemp and Turkish kilim pillows in warm browns and tans to add lots of warmth and texture to the space. I topped it off with the
Serena + Lily Topanga Linen Throw in Ivory (my favorite throw!). This is now officially the coziest spot to snuggle up for story time! π
Finally, many of you have been asking what I did with my
round black mirror that used to be in my entryway when I replaced it with
this one... well, here it is!! I love it in this space -- the placement directly across from the 2 windows doubles the natural light and makes the whole room feel so much bigger and brighter! And I love how the black accents tie everything together!
Next, I would love to update the lighting in this room to bring in even more texture and warm tones! Maybe an
oversized lamp like this one or
this one on the cubby shelf, or some
cute sconces like these next to the mirror, and a warm
woven pendant in the center of the room! Here is a mood board I designed for the space to help visualize the overall look I am working towards:
