Over the years, this room has seen quite a few changes. From guest room to nursery to playroom, it has served many purposes and seen many different styles. Lately I've been craving a more earthy, neutral palette, so I partnered with my friends at Serena + Lily to give this room a little refresh!
I started by upgrading the rug (our old one had quite a few crayon/marker stains from the kids and coffee spills from yours truly 💁🙈 and it was definitely time for it to go!). We needed something durable but comfortable, and I wanted something a bit warmer than the gray rug we had previously.
I went with the Serena + Lily Turnstone Rug in Earth -- it has the perfect warm neutral tone I was looking for in a fun but subtle pattern. And best of all, it can be hosed down to clean it!!! It's actually an indoor / outdoor rug, but you'd never know it because the material is so soft and cozy. It's so easy to clean and can definitely stand up to whatever my kids (literally) throw at it! 😂
Next, it was time for a pillow upgrade! Again, I wanted to bring in some warmer neutrals, with lots of texture and character. On the malawi chair, I used the Serena + Lily Luca Pillow in Fog -- I love the subtle greige stripe with the playful pom pom fringe!
On the daybed, I used the Serena + Lily Ashby Pillow in Fog the center, flanked by the Camille Diamond Medallion Pillow in Ivory/Black for a fun mix of patterns. I love the juxtaposition of the classic window pane pattern on the Ashby pillow with the funky batik vibes of the Camille ❤
Finally, many of you have been asking what I did with my round black mirror that used to be in my entryway when I replaced it with this one... well, here it is!! I love it in this space -- the placement directly across from the 2 windows doubles the natural light and makes the whole room feel so much bigger and brighter! And I love how the black accents tie everything together!
Next, I would love to update the lighting in this room to bring in even more texture and warm tones! Maybe an oversized lamp like this one or this one on the cubby shelf, or some cute sconces like these next to the mirror, and a warm woven pendant in the center of the room! Here is a mood board I designed for the space to help visualize the overall look I am working towards:
